Blah Blah

My roommate, Ken, aka DJ Just Nine was preparing for “And It Don’t Stop”, a night of dancing in the Bedlam Theater alongside fellow DJ and producer Noam the Drummer.

Doors were at nine. In the mood to be punctual, I found myself sailing over greenway blacktop in overalls and a backpack.

New Twins GM strikes out on big decisions

2008 has been a year of transition for our the Minnesota Twins. Of all the comings and goings, perhaps the most influential one is also the one least talked about: the transition from General Manager Terry Ryan to Bill Smith. Smith has been involved in the Twins organization for 22 years, including the last 13 as Ryan’s assistant GM.

UNITY in the city of wind

I attended the Unity Conference as a part of a student life club, City College News. Held in Chicago August 23-27, 6,000 journalists and newsmedia professionals from across the country showed up, the single largest gathering of journalists in the country. Organized by the Unity Alliance, led by Asian and Native American Journalist’s Associations (AAJA, NAJA) with the National Associations of Black and Hispanic journalists (NABJ, NAHJ), the conference takes place every four years.

To Clinton supporters who plan to vote for John McCain

I’m not going to ask you why you would vote for John McCain when he’s so much further away from Hillary Clinton’s ideals than Barack Obama is. I’m not going to get on my soapbox and say that I would be supporting Hillary had she won the nomination. Nor am I going to point out how freaking baffled I am that as a democrat, you would vote for someone who is so conservative who has agreed with President W.

Is Minnesota really turning purple?

On September 4th John McCain will accept the Republican Party’s nomination for President in front of twenty thousand screaming supporters. He will do so at the new ground zero of swing state battlegrounds: The XCEL Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Introducing him may very well be his Vice Presidential nominee, Tim Pawlenty, the Governor of Minnesota.

MCTC Student Senate leaders fight for change in 61st USSA Congress

Following the 61st Congressional meeting in Madison, Wisconsin two MCTC students returned as United States Student Association (USSA) Coalition of Students with Disabilities Chair and Great Lakes regional chair respectively. A USSA partnership will likely ensure that more voices from Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and MCTC in particular receive due attention at the national level.

CCN is back and ready to hear your voice

Allow us to reintroduce ourselves. You may know City College News as the home of inter-staff turmoil and self-inflicted work stoppages. Or you may not know us at all. But those days are in our rearview- yesterday’s news, as we say in the newspaper business.

Through all that, they’ve carved out an impressive niche for themselves through hard work and perseverance, and now they’re busy rocking it out indie style and making the world a better place- all while raising families.
