It is safe to say that every student who comes to MCTC is here to realize a dream. Every year hopeful students sign up and take classes to bring positive changes in their life. While MCTC offers a diverse and varied curriculum, not enough students are taking math intensive courses.

The Student Senate voted Feb 11 to give student approval for the Helland Center buildout. In a time of huge economic turmoil and budget shortfalls for the state government that will likely directly affect MNSCU’s funding, consent has been given to start an expensive construction project on campus.

Green River Ordinace Out of My Hands A&E Editor Imagine a band that tackles all of the emotion of an emo band without coming across as being whiney- Green River Ordinance does that with their album “Out of My Hands.” It’s the sincerity of the vocals and the elegant, painstaking falsettos plus the substantial and pretty guitar lines that back up the honest (and sometimes overly) simple lyrics that make up one pretty good album.

Parke Kunkle, a MCTC science professor, (along with the Minnesota Planetarium Society, co-founded by Prof. Kunkle and 4 other individuals in 2002) has been devoting all of his free time for about the past 10 years in an effort to build a planetarium atop the Minneapolis Library with the goal of placing Minnesota back on the map for planetarium size and also to enhance education for Minnesota’s youth.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, a large number of black social groups and civic leaders met at the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative town hall meeting met at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in St. Paul, Minn. The meeting was a good example of participating in the civil process.

I arrived to the Stupor Bowl about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31. We met in the alley behind One-on-One Bikes on North Washington Avenue in Minneapolis. I found a diverse group of people there. Dirty bike messengers from across the country straddled their bikes; forty-year-old men in their biking jerseys from the mid 80′s, and hipsters on flashy fixed gears, all united for one event: Stupor Bowl 12.
MCTC’s student senate has passed a resolution recommending an expansion to the current Helland Center Commons. The senate passed the measure Feb. 11, a week after a special session meant to gauge student response to the multi-million dollar expansion that could begin as soon as this fall.
