In recent weeks our school has witnessed a two rather unfortunate events. One of our faculty members was arrested for first degree sexual misconduct, and several convicted sex offenders have been released back into the community after completing their sentences.
According to results released Tuesday, the student body has elected Sen. Kerrick Sarbacker as the next student senate president after voting was held Wed., March 24. Sarbacker won the majority of the 263 votes cast in the race between the St. Paul native and Sen.
In an emotional address to the student senate on Wednesday, March 24, student body president T.J. Malaskee resigned from his position. During his statement, Malaskee talked about how he has enjoyed his time as student body president, and that he appreciated the support that he received from the leaders at MCTC and the student body as a whole.
Have you ever wondered what you would look like as a member of another race? Through the week of February 8-12, Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) most recently played host to the Human Race Machine, located in the T-building skyway area. The Human Race Machine is designed to show a person as another race.
A diverse gathering of people were present at a panel discussion and public forum focused on issues pertinent to the 2010 U.S. Census on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in the Helland Center Student Lounge. The event, entitled “The Census: Culture, Identity, and the Changing Face of Minnesota,” was organized by Lena Jones, political science instructor and faculty coordinator of MCTC’s Center for Civic Engagement.
On Wednesday, February 17 an impassioned two-hour public discussion about the discontinued Men’s and Women’s Basketball Programs at Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) dominated the Helland Center. Last spring, the Student Life Budget Committee (SLBC) voted 6-2 to cut all funding for the MCTC Men’s and Women’s Intercollegiate Basketball Teams.
On April 21, 2010 Minneapolis Community and Technical College’s environmental club, 3 Legged Frog, will host a sustainability fair at MCTC, specific location to be announced. This is 3 Legged Frog’s sixth annual sustainability fair, and the theme this year will be sustainability from the ground up Should “Sustainability from the ground up” and will feature environmental organizations and speakers with the aim of educating MCTC’s student population about living a more eco-friendly life.
This film is the first work seen from fashion mogul Tom Ford. The world was seemingly skeptical about his ability to pull of making a movie, let alone creating one as an adaptation from a novel, however the film recently received an Academy Award for best actor Colin Firth, so things are certainly looking up.
Scott Cooper’s first film Crazy Heart, featuring Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal, was a fantastic success. The film follows Jeff Bridges’ character Bad Blake, the classic washed up formerly famous country singer who spends his days traveling the country in a beat up old truck, drinking whiskey and playing bars every night.
