Remember the promising hope of a democratic nation? The blissful idea of a society of people that can discuss things functionally with each other and come to a logical solution serving both sides of the tracks? Do you also remember hearing the vague jargon of health care debate in recent weeks? Hmph. This health care bill has become larger than life; and all people participating in the reforming, and resizing of this madman have likely become unbelievably tired of the back and forth nature of changing anything in the good old U S of A.

MCTC deserves better Wi-Fi

There are changes afoot at MCTC, one that affects the livelihood and productivity of students, faculty and staff alike. This change doesn’t involve student leadership or some controversy, but rather the new Wi-Fi system that appears to have popped up on the MCTC campus.

Wanted: Administrative Transparency

Confusion and speculation have confounded the MCTC community since Student Senate President T.J. Malaskee’s unexpected resignation came just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24 during a Student Senate meeting – on the same day student senate presidential elections were held.

Counterpoint: Why 97% of us didn’t vote for student senate president

I didn’t vote in the student senate presidential election last month. Neither did over 97% of the student body. But before anybody complains about us not participating, they need to become informed about why we didn’t – and they should examine their own reasons for voting.

Senate to hold emergency session to discuss proposal

The MCTC student senate will be holding an emergency session Thursday to discuss the senate’s budget proposal.

The meeting will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m..

All senators and club representatives are encourage to attend as well as community members who have questions regarding the process.

Group to form Muslim Youth Recreation Center

A group of young adults in the Muslim community have decided that the time to find solutions for the problems their youth are facing is now. Included in that group is MCTC student Saciido Shaie, president and the founder of Somali Youth Action. That solution is the Muslim Youth Recreation Center.

Muslim Student Association holds general body meeting

On March 9, MCTC’s Muslim Student Association held its general student body meeting in the campus’s science building in only the grandest style. On entering one was offered a Qur’an and fliers and greetings from various members of the Association including the new president, Mujahid Asamarai.

MCTC Construction Update

The welcomed spring weather not only has students and faculty energized by sunny days, but it has MCTC Facilities geared up to recommence work on the outdoor Plaza and beginning their efforts on various maintenance projects throughout the college. In 2009 facilities broke ground when they began Phase I of their initiative to create a sustainable central campus outdoor plaza.

Student Veterans Gain Recognition

Amid an atmosphere of warmth and gratitude, a recognition ceremony honored individuals who have contributed to the student veteran community on March 10, 2010 in the Gourmet Dining Hall. A congressional proclamation declared the day Student Veterans of America Appreciation Day.
