Remember how Donald ‘bone spurs’ Trump treats war widows

His name is Sgt. La David Johnson.

He was one of four service members that were killed in Niger on Oct. 4.

Johnson left behind a widow.

What follows is disgusting, disgraceful and a reminder that a draft dodging bully oversees the finest fighting force in the world.

After Johnson’s tragic death – of which the causes of are under investigation by the Pentagon – Myeshia Johnson, Johnson’s grieving widow, told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos that when she received a call from Trump – as is tradition when a service member is killed – that President Trump not only stumbled with remembering Johnson’s name but told her that “he knew what he signed up for.”

According to the New York Times, Ms. Johnson, who wasn’t allowed to even view the body of her dead husband, was forced to listen to the ramblings of Trump, deciding at the end to withhold her growing anger and not say anything to the president.

After Ms. Johnson’s interview with ABC News, Trump tweeted, “I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!”

In case that last sentence sounds weird, it’s because it is. The President of the United States called a war widow a liar.

If you’re a fellow veteran or a service-member who voted for Trump, I don’t blame you for doing so. I don’t assume you’re racist or stupid. I don’t assume much of anything about you. People have their reasons for their beliefs and I’m okay with that.

But I do want all of you to think about your spouse or next of kin getting a phone call from President Trump if, God forbid, you end up paying the ultimate price for freedom.

I want all of you to imagine Trump stumbling over your name while he tells your wife, husband, mom, dad, sister or brother that you knew what you signed up for in an angry and dismissive tone.

I want all of you to imagine the person you care about most in the world being called a liar by Trump.

I want all of you to imagine the pain, suffering and humiliation that Ms. Johnson has endured at the hands of a draft dodger who had “bone spurs” and failed to answer the call when his country asked for his service – a call you answered.

I want all of you to remember this come next election. Think of it before. Think of it after. Think of it when you’re making the decision about whether you should vote for someone who would tarnish the memory of a fellow service-member.

Imagine your loved ones saying the words of Ms. Johnson as told to the New York Times: “I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name. And that’s what hurt me the most because if my husband is out here fighting for our country, and he risked his life for our country, why can’t you remember his name?”

His name is Sgt. La David Johnson.

He deserves better than Trump.
