The Fallout From GTA V

September 30, 2013 // 2 Comments

We live in a world where when something bad happens, we point the finger. When young girls dance like a stripper, parents blame Miley Cyrus. When young boys swear and cause mischief, they blame rappers. And when mass shootings occur, the world blames video games.Grand Theft Auto V (GTAV) is expected to be one of the most successful and profitable video games of all time. In just three days, the game made a billion dollars. That’s more than any movie has made during that time span. All this attention is going to lead to inevitable controversy. Where’s the controversy? It’s what happens in the game and the potential message it could send that’s being questioned. If you haven’t played a GTA game before, players can do […]

First Impressions of GTAV

September 19, 2013 // 0 Comments

I got Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) the Tuesday it came out. I didn’t have the energy to go to a midnight launch and get it so I tried as hard as I could to stay away from the reaction other people were having who went to the midnight launch. I started to install the game at about 8 p.m. Tuesday night and I’ll tell you, my anticipation and excitement would not stop rising as it installed. I said it was going to be one of the best games I’ve ever played and so far (probably less than 5% into the story mode), I can say that it is, SPOILERS AHEAD (if you have yet to get this game, go and get it now) The tutorial mission […]

To Walkthrough or Not Walkthrough?

September 12, 2013 // 3 Comments

Almost everyone has known the struggle of being “stuck” in a video game. So what do we do when we’re stuck? We get help. Some people in the gaming world say getting help from a source outside the game itself is “cheating”. But is it? I’m guilty of using walkthroughs in games like the Legend of Zelda series. If you’re a Zelda fan, you’ll understand that I only used walkthroughs for those mind-numbing, frustrating temple puzzles. Did I think I was cheating? Yes and no. Yes because I was cheating myself from feeling that sense of self-discovery that comes with figuring out where to go next. No because it was something I felt like I had to do or else I’d chuck my controller across […]

Thoughts on Grand Theft Auto V

September 10, 2013 // 0 Comments

Ever since I Played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, I always wanted a sequel. Then it came (sort of)! GTA V takes place in the same location as San Andreas but in modern times and with new characters. And boy, am I excited. This game has been getting a lot of hype. A lot of critics are saying that his game is going to revolutionize the open world environment game. I’m the kind of person who tries to avoid any spoilers for video games before they come out. Even past plot spoilers, I try to avoid coverage of the game all together. I don’t like seeing game play or screenshots. Seeing previews and coverage for a game is only going to raise my expectations for […]

First Video Game Memory

September 9, 2013 // 0 Comments

We all have that memory that sticks in our minds from the first time we really played a video game. Growing up, I have faint memories of playing games on the Super Nintendo and playing Pokémon Red but the first time I really got into a video game was probably when I was about 7. It was Christmas. Santa had gotten me a brand new yellow Gameboy Color and a copy of Pokémon Silver. I was the happiest kid ever. I played that Pokémon Silver for hours on end. I remember I had one of those lights that connected to your Gameboy so you could play in the dark. My grandma caught me playing in the bathroom in the dark one time and told me […]

Welcome to Gabe’s Video Game Blog

September 5, 2013 // 2 Comments

Hello my fellow gamers and those who are interested in getting into the sport. When I’m not being a journalist, I enjoy playing video games. This blog is going to be all about the games I’m playing and what’s happening in the gaming world. Xbox One or Playstation 4? What’s the best game coming out this Fall? What’s going to be the best selling game and console this holiday season? Where’s the Video Game Club at MCTC? Those are just a few questions I’ll be discussing in my upcoming blogs. While I’ll be discussing things I want to talk about, I also want to hear from you. What do you want me to talk about? What game should I play? I want your input. Let me know what you […]
