February 14th, 2007, St. Paul – Students from MCTC assembled with an estimated 1,000 from the rest of Minnesota’s community and technical colleges and state universities for a Wednesday march on the State Capitol protesting annual tuition hikes.

On January 17, the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives passed an agenda item on their list of priorities for the first one hundred hours of the new session that directly affects a lot of the students here at MCTC and college students throughout the country.
Three students have proposed a new club to the Student Senate that has grown out of the Western Clinical Herbalism program. The Herbal Enrichment for Restoring Balance, or H.E.R.B. Club, hopes to teach students how to grow organic gardens, ways of sustainable living, and alternative medical practices.

From the Mansfield room in the capital, junior senator Jim Webb of Virginia delivered the democratic response to the President’s State of the Union Address. The freshman Senator focused on two main concerns of the Democratic Party; the health of the economy and the country’s foreign policy.
On Wednesday, January 31st the T Building skyway hosted the Spring Student Life Club Fair that featured both established student groups and those that are just beginning to attract members.
MCTC hosted its seventeenth annual birthday tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. at the Basilica of St. Mary’s cathedral on January 16th. The celebration featured a speech by actor Lou Gossett Jr., gospel music performed by James Grear & Company, the Nu Friends Community Choir, Young Hands for Christ and 4 Given, an a cappella youth group.
Beer, chips, nipple slips, and oh yea–football. The circus that is the Super Bowl is again upon us and we’ll no doubt be seeing purple rain, no not the Vikings, but rather Prince. This year’s event will take place Feb. 4 in sizzling Miami. The game features the high-powered offense of the Indianapolis Colts against the stout defense of the Chicago Bears.
In July of 2006 MCTC political science professor Lena Jones traveled to Somalia to commemorate the start of a sister relationship with Puntland State University in Garoway, Somalia. The delegation Jones traveled with consisted of six people, including MCTC graduate Abdurashid Ali.
