The Intramurals Sports Program tips off with five-on-five basketball leagues starting Friday, Feb. 11.
Student Life Activities Coordinator, Collin Beachy, heads up the program.
“I am excited about it,” Beachy said. “I am ready to do whatever I can to get those who want to, playing basketball.”
There are eight active teams so far, and many more free agents seeking a team, according to Beachy.
There is a “draft day” set up for free agents, to be recruited by selected team captains on Friday Feb. 4 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“Anyone interested in playing should show up for the draft day,” said Beachy.
However, all players are not guaranteed a spot on a team, any players may form a team but must do so before 5 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 8.
The Intramural Sports program plans on gradually offering more and more opportunities for students interested in playing various sports.
“We’re starting with basketball,” Beachy said, “but there has been a lot of interest in other sports.”
Beachy is also considering organizing volleyball, tennis, and even horseshoes in Loring Park.
“I would like to set up small tournaments from time to time,” he said.
