MCTC coach Jay Pivec, who was named NJCAA Division III men’s basketball Coach of the Year last week, received another national honor this week when he was selected to coach the Division III men’s basketball All-Star team in a game against the Division II All-Stars this Saturday in Odessa, Texas.

Mavericks Cortez Wallace and Cameron Hodges were named to the team, which plays in the first of two All-Star games Saturday. The second game features the Division I All-Stars against juco All-Stars from the state of Texas.

Hodges, who recently signed a National Letter of Intent with Minnesota State University, Mankato, was a key component to the Mavericks season, which saw a deep run into the national tournament in March, ending in a one-point loss in the national championship match.

Wallace, who led the team in points per minute on the floor, was selected as MCTC’s eighth First Team All-American on April 10. Wallace also was 17th nationally in field goal percentage with 58 percent. Wallace is currently undecided as to where he is going to college, but has received interest from a number of Division II schools.

City College News will post the results of Saturday’s game as soon as possible. We will also feature more information on the team’s postseason accolades in the April edition of City College News on newsstands soon.
