Men: Rochester 105 – United 63

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 30, 2009) – Demetrius Williams (So., St. Paul, Minn.) led Rochester Community and Technical College with 20 points as they cruised to an easy victory over the United Tribes Technical College in men’s basketball action this afternoon in Bowman Hall. The Yellow Jackets outs cored the Thunderbirds 105-63.

Rochester (11-2), had four score in double figures: Williams who also added six rebounds, six assists and three steals, Colin Kurk (14 pts., 11 rebounds), Aubrey Woods (12 points) and Scott Hill (10 points).

United Tribes (1-6), a Division II team from Bismark, N.D., were led by a game-high performance of 21 points from Andrew Russell (So., Lame Deer, Mont.). A.J. Strange Owl had 14 points and John Gunville (Fr., Dunseith, N.D.) had 10 points.

Women: Rochester 68 – United 54

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 30, 2009) – Maria Gangelhoff (Sleepy Eye, Minn.) had 17 points for Rochester Community and Technical College as the Yellow Jackets claimed a 68-54 victory over United Tribes Technical College in women’s basketball action today in Bowman Hall. The game was part of the MCTC New Year’s Classic basketball tournament.

RCTC (9-2) claimed a perfect 2-0 record at the tournament behind Gangelhoff’s 49 points over two games. In today’s game, Gangelhoff also had 16 rebounds and 8 assists. RCTC defeated Mesabi Range yesterday 82-60.

United Tribes (4-3), a Division II college from Bismarck, N.D., was led by a Kristin Bearstail (So., Bismark, N.D.) double-double (25 points and 10 rebounds). UTTC falls to a 1-1 tournament record after defeating fourth-ranked MCTC last night.

In a game dominated by turnovers, RCTC had 68 to United’s 47. It was the Thunderbirds who had the game-high performance of 21 points from Andrew Russell (So., Lame Deer, Mont.). A.J. Strange Owl had 14 points and John Gunville (Fr., Dunseith, N.D.) had 10 points.
